Lara Sarkissian is an electronic composer, sound artist, DJ and co-founder of experimental label CLUB CHAI. Sarkissian has released music with labels Tresor, CLUB CHAI, All Centre, and is an NTS Radio resident. Her roots in music production began from experimental filmmaking and video editing, producing her own sound collage and scores along to her footage. This then led her to collaborate with various filmmakers on video and film scoring.
Sarkissian’s approach to music is to create immersive and sonic landscapes, inviting listeners into the intersection of her worlds, fantasies and stories. She makes use of field recordings, digital audio, analog hardware, non-Western film and music samples — and often paying homage to her Armenian heritage. Sarkissian has created her own experimental processes in envisioning a futuristic Armenian sound; sampling, working with musicians or digitally programming instruments both indigenous and regional to Armenia — but always underscored with an electronic rhythmic pulse that draws from a deep appreciation for club music.
She has produced for 360-degree immersive installations across Europe and the US, spatialising her sound along to visual pieces, projections and live performances. Sarkissian has produced and performed at multi-channel sound residences for ISM Hexadome Berlin, STEIM Amsterdam, and has performed her original music live at Moscow Museum of Modern Art and MUTEK San Francisco. Her 360 degree audiovisual piece for installation has exhibited at museums Martin Gropius Bau Berlin, Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, and San Francisco’s Gray Area Art and Technology Festival. In 2021, she was published in the Journal of the Society for Armenian Studies,” The Soundscapes of Our Elsewheres: A Conversation with Lara Sarkissian” co-authored with Ethnomusicologist Sylvia Alajaji.
Currently studying sonic arts in Berlin, Joseph Kamaru aka KMRU is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist whose work is grounded on the discourse of field recording, noise, and improvisation. His work posits expanded listening cultures of sonic thoughts and sound practices, a proposition to consider and reflect on auditory cultures beyond the norms, and an awareness of surroundings through creative compositions and installations. His last three albums, 2020's "Peel", "Opaquer" and "Jar" received high praise from Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, NPR, and Bandcamp, KMRU is part of SHAPE platform roaster of artists for 2021. His works have been presented in NyegeNyege Festival (UG), CTM Festival (DE), GAMMA (RU), and Mutek Montreal and Barcelona.
Drew McDowall's works are sacraments to alterity. An artist who has refused to conform in music and in life, McDowall mines the hallucinatory spaces that exist between reality and celestial otherness. His meditative compositions are haunting and spiritual, melding intricate modular soundscapes with cut-up samples, and deconstructing sounds into their most basic shuddering structures and shapes. The disorienting ambient mirages that result elicit terror, tender melancholy, and heavenly flickers of expansive beauty.

In the project UCC Harlo, Annie Garlid stages sonic communions between the old and the new, contemplates contemporary relationships to the natural world, and casts music as mood. A classically-trained viola player and singer, she reworks her own performances of medieval, Renaissance, and baroque music or begins from scratch, infiltrating hauntological ambience with liturgical choral riffs, off-the-cuff recordings, and fur-soft spoken vocals. All of these elements comb the territories between doubt and wonder. Annie released her debut album, United, in March 2019 on Subtext Recordings. She has performed at Donaufestival (Austria), Berlin Atonal, CTM Festival (Berlin), 3hD Festival (Berlin), Commend (NYC), IRL (NYC), Nowadays (NYC), and Epsilon Spires (Brattleboro), and has licensed her music to Chanel and JW Anderson.

Quadraphonic sound uses four audio channels in which speakers are positioned at the four corners of a listening space. The system allows for the reproduction of sound signals that are (wholly or in part) independent of one another. Four channel quadraphonic surround sound can be used to recreate the highly realistic effect of a three-dimensional live concert hall experience. It can also be used to enhance the listener experience beyond the directional limitations of ordinary two channel stereo sound.

Laboratory
Rooted in spatial and sub-bass-centered sound powered by a 24.2-channel D&B Audiotechnik system, Reforesters Laboratory hosts a spectrum of experiences—from ambient and experimental electronic music performances to wellness offerings like sound baths and breathwork classes.
As an experimental adaptogen café and listening room in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we bring these two realms together in one space, sometimes blending them and other times offering them separately so guests can choose how they want to engage: fully immersive, facilitator-guided, or entirely self-directed. Through music, meditation, art, plant care, and adaptogenic, nutrient-rich food and beverages, we cultivate both physical and spiritual kindness. Our environment is designed to offer peace and clarity, inviting people to explore at their own pace while deepening their connection to themselves, their communities, and the world around them.
Our sister organization, Reforesters Farm, is meanwhile laying the groundwork for the Laboratory's visitors to eventually practice the art of connection upstate via led experiences and music events in the forests of the Western Catskills.
